Who we are

Over the last two years our Managing Director has been piloting a business model where equity is acquired in companies that have contracts with government or large private-sector companies. Due to the success of this business model, IE Capital Private Equity Fund (“IE Capital”) has been established.

It is a known fact that business in South Africa is subject to compliance with procurement regulations. One such regulation for government and large enterprises is specifically B-BBEE requirements. It is clear that a company with at least 51% Black ownership is far more likely to obtain contracts from government and large enterprises. Johnny Eliades, founder of IE Capital, is one of B-BBEE consultants in South Africa and has brokered numerous B-BBEE deals. Many companies are provided with business opportunities in the form of awarded contracts with government or large enterprises, but lack the capital to fulfil such contracts. Companies may also fail because their recordkeeping for tax and financial compliance are not up to standard. Johnny is a qualified Chartered Account and started his firm, Ioannis Eliades Chartered Certified Accountants (Pty) Ltd (“IECCA”) 16 years ago. Two years ago, a client once approached Johnny for a capital investment after being awarded a R60million government contract. The company had the skillset and experience required, but not the capital.

Johnny sourced the capital through founding the IE Consortium in partnership with Construct-a-Dream, in order to fulfil the government contract. IECCA also started managing the company’s financial reporting and accountability. After running this project for two years, Johnny has decided to expand. IE Capital, through Johnny, has detected an opportunity for investors in the South African market that will give them access to business opportunities that would otherwise not be available to them.

Since commencing operations, the demand has been massive. Numerous SME’s and investors have approached IE Capital for its valuable skills and experience gained through the pilot project which are now applied to all current and future investments. Recently, a company doing business with Mines approached us for finance. However, they did not want to allow us control over their finances or part with some of their equity. 3 days later, another company approached us with the same purchase order. They agreed to our terms and conditions and received the relevant capital. It is our belief that there will be a continuous influx of new business opportunities meeting the investment criteria. Investments will follow subject to the investment terms. The mere fact that IE Capital will be a provider of capital means that opportunities will be forthcoming. We foresee that within 18-24 months, IE Capital will grow to a R1billion company.

Our approach

Government and large companies have a drive to promote small to medium BBBEE certified businesses (“SME’s”) and they award tenders and contracts to these SME’s. It may happen that these SME’s find it difficult to fulfil their contracts due to lack of capital. IE Capital will provide the required capital to these SME’s and acquire up to 49% equity in these SME’s. This is why this private equity fund was established.

Only companies who comply with the investment criteria will qualify. The investment criterias are simply put:

    1. Awarded contract with government or large private-sector company
    2. Technical knowledge/skill to fulfill/deliver on said contract
    3. Capital requirement and/or management challenges

IE Capital will only provide capital subject to specified investment terms which are, simply put:

    • IE Capital acquires up to a 49% share in the SME
    • IE Capital will control the accounting functions of the SME, including cash management, via a sister company (Ioannis Eliades Chartered Certified Accountants “IECCA”)
    • Due diligence of SME.
